Varieties, mints and privy marks

5 francs 1992: Pierre Mendès France, KM 1006, nickel, 10 g, 29 mm, 10,000,000 regular coins. 5 francs 1996: Hercules, KM 1155, nickel, 10 g, 29 mm, reeded edge, 4,976,000 regular coins. The 1992 silver (KM 1006a) and gold (KM 1006b) proof versions are excluded from the circulating-coin catalogue.

Sower: KM 926a.1, nickel-clad copper-nickel, reeded edge; KM 926a.2, from 1991, modified design, D’AP O. ROTY signature and plain edge. Date and denomination alone do not distinguish the varieties. The catalogue separates regular and proof issues for individual dates.

For modern issues, “Paris” in World Coins identifies Monnaie de Paris. Production of circulating coins moved to the Pessac factory in 1973. The cornucopia is a privy mark, distinct from the letter K of the historical Bordeaux mint.
