Finnish silver coins
Silver penni and markka for ordinary circulation
Ordinary markka coins are illustrated in 61 types or photographic groups, from the Grand Duchy issues to the final dates of 2001. Each markka is divided into 100 penni. The new markka of 1963 is distinct from the earlier unit: one new markka equals one hundred old marks. Header dates are type ranges and do not imply minting in every year.
Fineness varies: 750 thousandths for the small Grand Duchy denominations, 868 thousandths for 1 and 2 markkaa, 500 thousandths for 100 and 200 old marks, and 350 thousandths for the new markka of 1964–1968. Each alloy retains its own column.
