Brazilian cruzeiro real coins

The cruzeiro real (1993–1994): a bridge to stability

The Cruzeiro Real (CR$, BRR) was a short-lived transitional currency introduced on 1 August 1993 by President Itamar Franco through Provisional Measure No. 336. It removed three zeros from the previous currency at 1 Cruzeiro Real = 1,000 Cruzeiros.

The regular-issue catalogue includes 5, 10, 50 and 100 cruzeiros reais. The series also includes animal motifs; the denominations reflect the transition to the real of 1994.

This system lasted only eleven months and served as a bridge to the URV and the final introduction of the Real in July 1994.
